Izwan & Partners advises Life Origin on its undisclosed seed round

Izwan & Partners is pleased to have advised Malaysian based biotech startup Life Origin on its recent undisclosed seed fundraising round.

The funding came from Glocalink Singapore Pte Ltd, a venture capital fund backed by Leave a Nest Co., Ltd. a Japanese science and technology ecosystem builder company.

Izwan & Partners managing partner Izwan Zakaria says: “Notwithstanding the recent global pandemic impacting the startup fundraising ecosystem, it is heartening to see continuing investment activity across Southeast Asia especially in Malaysia, with the strong support of a regional strategic investor like Glocalink.”

Izwan further adds, “We are glad to have also worked closely with Life Origin’s founder Sio Chun Jia who has been working on black soldier fly larvae breeding since 2019. Food security is  one of the most important and neglected areas that will need the most investment as we grapple with climate emergency  related issues in years to come.”

Life Origin is a biotech startup company that produces quality insect protein biofuel and organic fertiliser from Black Soldier Fly larvae. Additionally, Life Origin is an accredited social enterprise recognised as it addresses the environmental issue of turning food waste and disposable media into nutritious animal feed.

The funds raised by Life Origin will accelerate its automation toward meeting the anticipated demand for insect protein in the future and optimise processes, scaling up and analysing data on its current R&D work.
